Camp Fiesta Island (CFI) Adult Leader Programs

Leader Programs at Summer Camp

Last month I wrote about CFI’s Adult leader Programs in our troop newsletter, and mentioned “Nap Safely.” Well, I can tell you we all passed that course at summer camp this year and we did it safely. But I must tell you that some of our leaders; Bernie the Scoutmaster, Joe his Asst. Scoutmaster and our own Committee Secretary Christy, went to the “Xtreme” with their participation in the “Xtreme Leaders Challenge.” Xtreme Leaders Challenge

They arose at O Dark 30 (5:45AM) each day and participated in such”Xtreme” events like a swim to Seattle and back, they ran to New York one day and participated in a marathon, then ran back in time to do Yoga on a Paddle board the next morning. The last event had them kayaking to San Francisco while drinking coffee without spilling a drop.

Three of us also took the Aquatics Supervisor Course, Scott our Cub Coordinator, Christy our secretary, and myself. After a challenging written and practical on BSA Aquatics Supervision Swimming and Water Rescueswimming rescue and boat safety and rescue using a kayak, we were awarded certification in Aquatics Supervisor for “Swimming and Water Rescue” BSA Aquatics Supervision Paddlecraft Safetyand “Paddle Craft Safety, Basic Kayaking and Basic Canoeing.”This will now allow our troop to plan and carry out aquatic events in the future such as swimming, kayaking, and canoeing, which require a certified Aquatics Supervisor.
