Compared to the BSA, American Heritage Girls (AHG) is a relatively new organization. Is was organized by motivated parents looking for a way to get their kids involved in a scouting program that both developed leadership and their faith in a Christ centered way in 1995.
The parents sat around a kitchen table in Cincinnati Ohio extolling their frustrations that they saw in their kids present scouting organization, concerning matters of faith and culture. They wanted more. This led to a more Christ-centered educational opportunity for girls that focused on service-orientation and also emphasized outdoor activities and fun.
