We Went Climbing

This past weekend I went mountain climbing and then rappelling back down. First, we set up camp on Friday evening. Then we ate dinner, which we brought ourselves. Then we made a campfire and searched the area for small twigs and branches to start the fire with. We sat around the campfire, taking about life until about 9:45 PM. Then we went to bed.

The next morning, we set up the kitchen area, cooked and then ate breakfast. We sawed wood, to be used later for the evening campfire. I helped so that I could get my “Totin Chip”. After breakfast we drove over to the other campsite where Troop 444 was located and dove right into a climbing ground school. We got our harnesses and helmets on. We learned the 8 point knot and the “Rut Row” knot, named so because if you ever said Rut Row then you have the extra safety knot. After ground school, we started into climbing. After a little bit, we started rappelling by going up the trail to the top of the mountain and then started rappelling. After that, we took a break from the festivities to eat lunch. After lunch we did more rappelling.

After all of us finished climbing and rappelling we went back to our campsite. We cooked and ate dinner after setting up our campfire to help cook part of the meal. Then we washed the dishes and sat around the campfire. Once the fatigue caught up to us, we went to bed.

The next morning, we had donuts and Sunny D for breakfast. Finally, we packed up and left for home.

I had a great time at camp.

Be Prepared,
